Bill Hurlock is a trial attorney specializing in litigating False Claims Act (qui tam), police oversight/monitoring, product liability, commercial litigation and mass tort cases. He is a senior attorney appointed by courts to monitor police departments concerning allegations of excessive force. Bill is experienced in all aspects of litigation, arbitration, mediation and appeals. In addition, he represents clients in class action and national mass tort multi-district cases. He served as the lead attorney in several health care False Claims Act cases that have resulted in significant recoveries on behalf of the United States and represents individual relators as part of these lawsuits. He also successfully obtained releases of wrongly incarcerated inmates and secured expungements in pro bono matters.
While in Washington, D.C., Bill served on the staffs of three offices of independent counsel: David M. Barret, investigating allegations concerning the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, where he served as a federal prosecutor; James C. McKay, investigating allegations concerning the United States Attorney General; and Donald C. Smaltz, investigating allegations concerning the United States Secretary of Agriculture. He also worked for a United States Congressman and a Member of Parliament in the British House of Commons.
From 2002 to 2013, Bill served as an adjunct professor teaching health care law and legal research and writing at Seton Hall Law School. He was an officer and barrister in the Arthur T. Vanderbilt American Inn of Court, an association of lawyers and judges designed to promote legal excellence in litigation.
In 2012 Bill was named to the New Jersey Super Lawyers list - a distinction reserved for 5% of practicing attorneys in the State. He was also selected to the Lawyers of Distinction, an honor bestowed upon the top 10% of lawyers involved in civil litigation in the nation. He attained the AV Preeminent rating, which is the highest in legal ability and ethical standards by Martindale-Hubbell.
Bill appeared in many television shows, served as a speaker and authored numerous articles on relevant legal topics. He has been featured in The American Lawyer magazine and the Corporate Crime Reporter for his professional achievements.
